After weaving through Kaminarimon and Nakamise Street, slip into Hanbei Saryo Asakusa for a calm reset. It sits on the 4th floor of the Uoasa Building, slightly removed from the street noise, like a small hideaway in the middle of sightseeing. Settle in with fragrant tea and classic Japanese sweets—comforting, not heavy, and perfect between temple visits and shopping. From up here, Asakusa feels softer: you can look out over the neighborhood, check your photos, and plan the next stop at an unhurried pace. It’s an easy choice for both a mid-walk break and a gentle finale to the day.

Welcome to the world of The Way of Mochi! This is not a “just watching” activity — it’s a hands-on experience where you become a true Mochi Artisan.
In this workshop, you’ll start from kneading steamed glutinous rice and pound it with a real wooden mallet and mortar — don, don, don! Once finished, you’ll cut the freshly made mochi into pieces and enjoy an all-you-can-eat tasting of nine flavors: kinako (soybean powder), matcha, brown sugar syrup, grated daikon, red bean, plum, mayonnaise, mentaiko mayo, and soy sauce.
Afterward, relax on the reserved second-floor tatami seats with a bowl of matcha while savoring your freshly made mochi — a truly luxurious Japanese moment.
You can even take home the mochi you made yourself, along with a special recipe card to recreate the flavor later!
Your first mochi-pounding will make this trip truly unforgettable.
From today, you too are a Mochi Master!
